yield: 2 servings
cook time: 75-90 minutes
- Ingredients -
1 pack firm tofu
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp grated ginger
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sesame oil
green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
- Instructions -
Drain and remove tofu from packaging. Place 4 paper towels on a plate. Set tofu on top and cover with more paper towels. Place a heavy pan on top. Let sit for 30 minutes, replacing the paper towels halfway if you'd like.
Combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes in a medium bowl.
Cut tofu into bite size pieces. Add it to hoisin sauce bowl and toss to coat the tofu. Cover and marinate for 30 minutes.
Heat olive oil in a cast iron pan over medium heat. Once hot, add tofu and sear for about 1-2 minutes. Flip and continue to cook until bottom is seared.
Remove from heat, drizzle tofu with sesame oil, and top with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds for garnish.
- Tips -
The pan can get really hot, so it might be beneficial to clean it off halfway and pour some water on it to reset the temperature before cooking the next batch
