i'm usually one to pan-fry tofu but i really wanted to try baking it instead! this recipe takes a bit more time than the average dish, but the result is a really crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside piece of tofu 🤩

cornstarch tofu: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMedARcMM/

crispy baked tofu
yield: 3-4 servings
cook time: 1 hour 15 min
ingredients
1 block (14oz) firm tofu
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 tbsp olive oil
instructions
Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lay a paper towel on a flat surface and place the block of tofu on top. Add another sheet of paper towel on top of the tofu and place a heavy pan/board on top to press some liquid out the tofu. Leave the tofu for about 15 minutes. Replace the paper towels halfway through.
Cut the tofu into 1/2 inch thick slices. Coat with an even layer of cornstarch. Drizzle olive oil on the tofu and sprinkle a little more cornstarch to get a nice clumpy layer on each piece.
Lay the tofu on the baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Serve with sweet chili sauce, or with ramen, or any other dish you'd like!
panko breaded tofu
yield: 3-4 servings
cook time: 1 hour
ingredients
1 block (14oz) firm tofu
1/2 cup vegetable broth (or whatever broth you want)
2-3 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 cup flour
2 eggs
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp salt
optional seasonings: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, etc.
instructions
Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Remove the tofu from the packaging, and lightly press the sides dry with a paper towel. Slice into small pieces, or whatever size you prefer.
Combine vegetable broth and soy sauce in a medium bowl and add the tofu. Marinate the tofu for 10-15 minutes.
Set up 3 bowls: one with flour, one with whisked eggs, and one with the panko breadcrumbs. First, coat the tofu pieces with the flour, then the eggs, then the panko.
Lay the tofu evenly spaced on the baking sheet and bake in the oven for 30 minutes, turning halfway.
Serve with dipping sauce, or any other dish you'd like!
