black bean burgers

i thought i didn't like black bean burgers after i had a not so great one at the London airport. however, this recipe changed my mind,, very much recommend trying if you are interested in trying a vegetarian burger alternative

 














 

yield: 3-4 burger patties


- Ingredients -

  • 1 (14oz) can of black beans (drained and rinsed)

  • 1/2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper (1/2 pepper)

  • 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion (1/4 onion)

  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (i didn't have so i used chili flakes instead)

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs

  • 1/4 cup feta cheese

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp ketchup, mayo, or bbq sauce

  • pinch of salt and pepper

- Instructions -

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Spread black beans onto a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-15 min until slightly dried out.

  2. Saúte olive oil, red bell pepper, yellow onion, and garlic over medium heat until onion is soft and translucent (5ish min). Place in a food processor or blender along with the remaining ingredients (cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, bread crumbs, feta cheese, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, pepper)

  3. Pulse everything together, then add the black beans and pulse again until just combined.

  4. Form into patties (about 1/3 to 1/2 cup each)

  5. To bake: 375°F for 10min each side // To grill: about 8min each side

  6. Serve with toppings of your choice (I only had arugula, white cheddar, and ketchup but it was p bomb)

- Notes -

  • honestly i didn't even cook the burgers lol my dad grilled them for me so i don't really know what the actual cooking time was

  • i rarely measure spices, i feel like a pinch of everything is sufficient

  • out of ketchup, mayo, and bbq sauce i think ketchup is the best option

  • more chili powder/flakes = spicier hehehe spicy bean burger is gud
