5 minute banana bread oatmeal

Charlene Bernabe

i don't really enjoy standard oatmeal, or even overnight oats that much, but i can safely say that this has become one of my go-to breakfasts recently. i love it because it only takes 5 minutes to make, and it is so deceivingly filling!

cook time: 5 minutes

yield: 1 serving

ingredients

  • 1/3 cup quick oats

  • 1/3 cup milk

  • 1/4 vanilla protein powder (optional, but i recommend some vanilla extract if you don't add it)

  • 1/2 banana, mashed

  • 1/2 tbsp maple syrup or honey

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • pinch of salt

  • 1 tbsp chocolate chips (optional)

instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl (oats, milk, protein powder, banana, maple syrup, baking powder, salt, chocolate chips).

  2. Microwave for 1-3 minutes*

  3. Top with fruit, granola, nut butter, or anything else you'd like. Enjoy!

notes

  • In my experience, microwaving for 90 seconds will result in a mushier, oatmeal-like texture, while 2 minutes will result in a cakier consistency. (the pictures above reflect 2 minutes microwave time for reference)
